Poker Rake
| |
If you are new to online poker games than there are a few things that you will
need to become acquainted with. One of those things is the poker rake. The
first thing that may come to mind is a virtual handheld apparatus that sweeps
the chips off of the table and into a pot, however that is most definitely not
what a poker rake is.
When you play in an online casino, the casino usually charges a fee for you to
play the game. However, online poker sites do not do this; instead they have a
poker rake. A poker rake by definition is a percentage of the pot that goes to
the house.
The poker rake can be paid in one of two ways. The first and most common way to
collect the rake is by collecting a percentage from every poker games pots. The
second way to collect the rake is by charging entry fees when the player enters
a tournament.
If a poker site is collecting the poker rake as a percentage of the pot they
will post on the website what the rates are in a table form so that every
player is aware of the rake. The rake is typically collected in 10% increments
of $.25 up to a maximum of $3. You will have to check the poker rake rates on
the site that you are playing at to be sure what they are, as they can vary.
The poker rakes are taken from the pot before the winner can collect his
winnings. This is usually done immediately. The rake is usually a small amount
of money, which does not make a considerable difference to the winner and
allows the poker site to operate.
