Granny’s a Loose Girl
| |
Mentioning slot machines often conjures mental images of rows
upon rows of little old ladies diligently cranking away hoping to hit that one
jackpot that will fund the rest of their retirement. Quite a few jokes and
mocking comments have been made in regards to playing slot machines, but little
do we jesters know, those grannies know what their doing and we’d all be a few
hundred dollars richer if we took their advice.
Best Slot Machine Locations
The biggest question to be answered is, “Which machines pay out the most?” The
answer to this question is more strategic than you may realize. Most rookies
make the assumption that all slot machines have been rigged to randomly pay out
after a certain combination of turns and all of them pay out approximately the
same amount of winnings. This is where Granny would chuckle a bit and sigh in
remembrance of the good old days when ignorance didn’t seem quite so blissful.
True, the machines have been programmed, but the concept behind when and how
much each machine pays out is hardly random.
That old adage about location is truer than you realize and it applies to
everything you encounter in and around a casino. Slots are an integral part of
the floor plan. They peak your interest, draw you in, and are placed throughout
the casino in a way so that slot players can be seen and heard by only those
who benefit the casino by seeing and hearing them. For example, you walk up to
a casino that looks promising. How have you determined that it’s promising?
Granny’s sitting inside at a slot machine, in full view of you and those around
her, and she’s just hit a jackpot. The sound of rushing coins flows through the
entrance of the casino and reaches out to grab you and pull you in.
Now, let me introduce you to Granny’s favorite machine. Any slot machine that
has been placed in the open and in full view of as many different parts of the
casino as possible is usually programmed to be “loose”. A loose slot machine
simply allows you to win more frequently. Loose machines are usually located
anywhere with enough space for a crowd to gather, such as near change booths or
at the end of a row. The idea here is to entice as many bystanders as possible
to change more money and spend more time gambling. So, the next time you see
Granny wandering around standing by each machine in turn and looking around
like she’s tying to signal her fellow spies, you’ll know what she’s really up
to.
On the flip side, there is such a thing as a “tight” slot machine and these are
the ones to avoid. A tight slot machine is programmed not to allow you to win
as frequently. You will most often find them near gaming tables, just inside
the front entrance to a casino and in non-gaming establishments. Now the rookie
will ask what’s the point of all this? If the casino wants people to keep
gambling and slot machines seem to do just that, why does it matter where
they’re placed at all? By this point most master slotsman would have rolled
their eyes in disgust and simply walked away, but Granny’s a good girl and
she’s going to help you through this. Gamblers who play on the Craps, Poker,
RouletteRoulette and Blackjack tables are not all that interested in slot machinesslot machines and
spend a lot more money than the mere slot mortal. The casino does not want to
distract them with the clatter of coins and will place tight machines closer to
these tables and the higher paying machines further away. The casino also wants
to draw people into their establishment and not stop them at the door creating
a crowd that passersby would find daunting to get through, so higher paying
machines are not place directly inside the front entrance. And good advice to
anyone even slightly interested in slots is to steer clear of machines in
places like clubs, bars and airports. These establishments do not depend on
getting their customers to return for their slot machines and program them to
simply take your money. Now that you’ve learned a bit about the difference
between a loose machine and a tight machine and we’ve prepared our rookie for a
beneficial gambling experience, let’s let Granny get back to what she does
best. Remember to keep your eyes open for the best strategically placed
machines and never make jokes about the little old ladies playing the slots.
They’ve already won enough for their retirement. That’s why they can afford to
sit there and keep playing.
