Now that you know the basics of playing, you can learn the basics of winning.
Blackjack is a lot of luck and math – how the cards are stacked in the deck,
and how many cards each person takes. It can be so predictable that computers
can be programmed to “play” thousands of blackjack hands to see what works and
what doesn’t. This type of analysis shows some basic rules for winning:
-
if your hand is 13-16 and the dealer’s up card is 2-6, stand
-
if your hand is 13-16 and the dealer’s up card is 6-A, hit
-
always stand on 17
-
almost always hit on 12 (unless dealer’s up card is 4-6, then stand)
-
always double down
on 11, unless dealer’s up card is an ace
-
always double down on 10, unless dealer’s up card is 10-Ace
That tip’s a winner
The best way to win blackjack is to keep playing until you’ve developed a system
that works for you. The rules above are a good start, but there are so many
combinations involved that it takes a lot of playing to get a gut instinct for
what card will come out of that shoe next.
