Craps Game
| |
A Craps game is one of the loudest and most exciting games
played in a casino. It is also the one game where the house has a minimal and
in most cases zero edge on the players, therefore it is possible for a Craps
player to win against the house if bets are placed shrewdly to maximize the
advantage a player has in this game.

How the Craps Game Is Played
A Craps game is played with dice. Firstly the player makes a bet, which is
either a pass line bet, or a don’t pass bet. Then player makes his first throw
that is known as the “comeout roll”. If the player’s first score is a 7 or an
11, this is called “making a pass” and those people who have bet on the “pass
line” will win. If on the other hand a 2, 3, or 12 is scored, then this is
known as “craps” and it is the “don’t pass line” bets that will win. However,
some casinos have different rules about these numbers so it pays to check the
house rules before commencing play. If any other number apart from those
mentioned above is scored, then this is known as a place number, which means
the player gets to roll the dice again, until they gain a pair of numbers. Then
depending on the number that is rolled, will depend on which line is paid out.
If a player “sevens out” (rolls a 7) then the next player has his turn.
Variations on the betting in a Craps Game
For new players to craps it pays to stick to betting on either the pass or the
don’t pass line. These bets pay even money. If you place bets on a pass line
then you are betting that the player will either roll a 7 or 11, or that the
player will roll a place number and then roll that number again, before
sevening out. If you are betting on the don’t pass line then you are betting
that the player will either roll a 2 or a 3 on the first shot, or that he will
roll a place number and then seven out before rolling that number again. More
experienced crap players can increase their bets by making an “odds” bet, which
means that the gambler is betting that the player will roll his pair before a
seven is rolled. This process can be done at different times of the game and
the payout is generally calculated according to the true odds a different
number will turn up before a seven is rolled.
